Illegal hawkers evicted, stalls razed in Dumdum

In a sweeping crackdown on illegal encroachments, South Dumdum Municipality and Nagerbazar Police Station launched a vigorous eviction campaign today. This initiative, long demanded by residents, was triggered by recent directives from the state's Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee, to remove illegal establishments across the region.

Starting early this morning, authorities targeted unauthorized shops lining the roadside from Nagerbazar Junction to Bangur New Signal, dismantling structures and clearing the area. Additionally, a strict crackdown on roadside parking saw numerous cars facing legal action, with owners instructed to remove vehicles immediately.

Under the Nagerbazar flyover, a focal point for illegal hawking, a massive operation unfolded as bulldozers razed makeshift shops. The scene was heavily guarded by a significant police presence to maintain order and prevent any potential disturbances.

Local officials emphasized the importance of reclaiming public spaces and ensuring adherence to municipal laws, echoing the state government's commitment to urban cleanliness and regulation enforcement.
